Thanksgiving Showcase

2010 The Western College Development Association staged its first showcase at the Kellogg Zaher Soccer Complex in Las Vegas, Nevada over Thanksgiving weekend. The boys U-15 to U-18 age groups showcased teams from 25 elite clubs from the western United States.

Clubs from nine different states were represented in Las Vegas, with California sending ten, while New Mexico, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Oregon, Nevada and Washington each sent two. With the exception of a few teams that played conference games at the showcase, each team played three games with teams against non-conference opponents to complement their intraconference schedule. On Saturday evening, the Showcase featured an All-Academic Game and an All-Star Game sponsored by adidas, with teams composed of some of the best and brightest high school seniors in the WCDA program.

The WCDA Showcase is one of four events that members may choose to participate in during the 2010-11 program season. The other three are the FC Portland Winter College Showcase held January 14-17, 2011, the Las Vegas Mayor’s Cup hosted by Downtown Las Vegas SC on February 19-21, 2011 and Neusport FC’s Las Vegas College Showcase to be held March 11-13, 2011.

The WCDA is a new premier youth soccer program focused on established, elite clubs delivering consistent, high-quality competition and college readiness services for its members. In support of its mission, the WCDA has created a College Advisory Board composed of coaches from Division I, II and III soccer programs who will provide guidance and direction over the college readiness component of the WCDA. The WCDA is a supplemental program, and member teams will continue to play in other leagues, tournaments and State Championship competitions. Players will also be able to participate on their high school teams.
