WPFC Alumna selected GNAC conference player of the week again

(October 14, 2010) - GNAC Conference Player of the week Saint Martin’s senior forward, Jill Webb had three goals and a pair of assists as the Saints continued their late season surge with 2-1 and 5-1 wins over MSU Billings and Northwest Nazarene, respectively. Webb leads the GNAC in goals with 11 and points with 29 and is tied for the conference lead in assists with Claire Morgan of Western Washington and fellow WPFC Alumnae Brandi Hamre and Kendall Thoreson of Seattle Pacific. All four players have seven.

Jill Webb scored the game-winning goal with 17 seconds remaining as Saint Martin’s upset Western Washington 2-1 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer game Thursday at the SMU Soccer Field.

The loss dropped the Vikings out of a tie for first place all the way to third place in the GNAC. Seattle Pacific (9-1-2, 6-1-1) held on to first place by defeating Northwest Nazarene 3-0 at Interbay Stadium.

The Vikings (8-2-2, 5-2-1), who had won three in a row, came into the game ranked third in the NCAA Division II West Region ratings.

“It was a disappointing loss,” said WWU coach Travis Connell.   “But we have to put it on ourselves … We didn’t have the energy and the longer the game went on the better Saint Martin’s played.”

Webb scored her league-leading eighth goal in the 90th minute, taking a cross from Julianna Sackeyfio at the top of the box and finding the left corner of the goal.

After a scoreless first half, Saint Martin ’s (4-8-0, 3-5-0), which won for the first time in four home games, took a 1-0 lead in the 62nd minute.  Jenny Baker scored her sixth goal of the season as Webb earned an assist.

WWU’s Kristin Maris tied the score just over a minute later, converting a corner kick by Claire Morgan, who picked up her league-leading seventh assist

That also was Morgan’s school record-tying 26th assist of her four-year career, tying the mark shared by Cindy Gordon (1981-84) and Kelly Irving (2006-09).

Western and Saint Martin ’s each had 15 shots and the Vikings had an 8-5 advantage on corner kicks.

(September 8, 2009) -  Jill Webb was selected as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer Player-of-the-Week as announced by the conference office.

Webb scored three goals as Saint Martin’s defeated Cal State East Bay and Sonoma State. Her goal against Sonoma State snapped what was a 1-1 tie in the 69th minute and handed the Seawolves their first loss in four contests.

“Jill was determined all week in training and that performance led to three great goals,” said head coach Rob Walker. “Jill’s consistent in what she does and is really working hard to even step up her performance as she expects to be challenged by opponents more so this year than last.”
It was Webb’s second consecutive Player-of-the-Week nod as she earned the honor last week as she tallied five points in two games for SMU. She scored both goals in a 3-2 loss to San Francisco State and picked up an assist on the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Cal State Monterey Bay.
