All-ACC S. Okoli

WPFC Alumnus Voted to the All-ACC 1st Team

Wake Forest led the ACC with three selections on the top team, as Okoli, Gimenez and Watts all earned First Team All-ACC honors. Maryland and Notre Dame were the only other schools with two First Team members.

Sean Okoli, a junior from Federal Way, Wash., is also making his first appearance as a First Team All-ACC selection. He was named to the All-ACC Freshman Team in 2011 and earned Second Team All-ACC honors last season. His eight goals this year are tied for the team lead with Gimenez and give him 23 for his career. That total is already 13th all-time in just his third year with the Demon Deacons. He also has 54 career points, putting him in 16th place in Wake Forest history. This season, Okoli leads the team with four game-winning goals and had a two-goal game at NC State on October 8.

2011 - Sean Okoli was named to the All-ACC Freshman Team after standout seasons during his first foray into collegiate soccer.

A striker, Okoli fought through a 12 match scoreless streak to begin the season and arrived as one of the Demon Deacons’ primary goal threats during the season’s final month. The Federal Way, Wash. product contributed his first career point - on a game-winning assist - to a 4-3 win over then-No. 25 Virginia on Oct. 14 and didn’t stop scoring for the remainder of the regular season. He had goals in four consecutive matches to close out the year, including a game-winner against William & Mary on Oct. 25 and the Deacons’ equalizer against then-No. 4 Maryland in a 1-1 draw on Nov. 3. He was named a Primetime Player of the Week by CollegeSoccer360.com on Nov. 1 and a preseason, "Freshman of Influence," by Soccer America.

The Deacons closed out their run of play with an 8-7-4 overall record and finished in a three-way tie for third-place in the ACC with a 4-3-1 conference record - the sixth straight year Wake Forest has posted a winning record in the perennially strong soccer league. The NCAA Tournament selection show is slated to occur on Monday, Nov. 14 at 4:30 p.m. and will be broadcast live on www.NCAA.com.
